Emsworth Seafood Week..............

Emsworth's 'Seafood Week' will celebrate over one thousand years of maritime commerce in this picturesque Hampshire market town. During the week of 19th to 25th October its cafes, hotels, pubs, restaurants and retail outlets will be offering special discounts, offers and special menus to recognise its dredging and fishing history at the centre of Chichester Harbour.

 TALKS &WALKS

Additionally the Emsworth Maritime and Historical Trust, in association with Chichester Harbour Conservancy, is organising a full programme of talks and walks to illustrate the rise and fall of Emsworth's oyster and shellfish industry. From its first Mullet fishery based in the Estuary of the river Ems in 1500 to the multi million pound Oyster dredging business created by local businessmen Foster and Kennett during the 19th century.

 SEAFOOD MARKET

To complement this celebration of the town's seafood heritage, the Emsworth Food Festival and Business Association are creating, on the last day of Seafood Week (Sunday 25th October), a traditional festival market place that will include stalls selling a wide variety of local produce, including fish and shellfish. There will be sea shanty music in South Street on this dayThe Old Seadogs are a four piece band with a repertoire which includes nautical songs, tunes and shanties and well known folk songs from around the British Isles and beyond. The band line-up is fiddle, accordion, guitar, bass guitar and vocals. The band is well known in the Portsmouth area and are a regular fixture in the annual Trafalgar day (which happens to be during Seafood Week!) celebrations in Portsmouth naval base. Listen HERE
